Simple Experiment: How Water Evaporates

A safe home experiment for learning about evaporation, heat, and the water cycle.

Place equal amounts of water in two shallow bowls. Put one bowl near a sunny window and the other in a shaded place. Mark the water level and check both bowls after a few hours.

The warmer bowl usually loses water faster because heat gives water molecules more energy to escape into the air. This is evaporation. The same process helps move water from oceans, rivers, and lakes into the atmosphere.

Students should record observations instead of guessing the result. A table with time, location, and water level is enough for a strong beginner experiment.
