For Parents: How to Talk About Grades
A calm, growth-oriented way to discuss report cards and learning progress with students.
A grade is a signal about learning; it is not a definition of a child. Start with calm questions: What felt easier this term? What felt harder? What kind of support would help next week?
Then choose one small next step together. A realistic next step might be reviewing math facts for ten minutes, asking the teacher one question, or organizing homework before dinner.
When students feel safe, they can talk honestly about mistakes and recover faster. The goal is a better learning plan, not blame.
